All New January Traditional Skills Workshops for Vets, But All Others Welcome Too

MuseumVillage, in conjunction with the Orange County Arts Council, is offering skills workshops for veterans and the community at large. Museum Director Robert Schmick says “Orange County has a very large number of veterans, and we want to offer them opportunities to learn about some traditional trades and skills that connect with our 19th century setting that they might enjoy doing and which could become part of a side business.” There will be a 15% discount on tuition for veterans with an ID.

The first three, Backyard Woodworking, Chair Caning and Beginning Blacksmithing are planned for January and February. Warwick rustic woodworker Daniel Mack is doing the Backyard Woodworking and the Chair Caning workshops. Mack has made his living for 30 years from making things from sticks, logs, driftwood and trees and says “I’d like to share both the technical parts of this work and offer some marketing advice on selling rustic objects.

Orange County Arts Council now accepting proposals for Spring SPARK Event

Spring 2012 Place & Date TBA

Proposals for SPARK are now being accepted for our Spring event.  Proposals will be accepted from all individuals within the community wishing to request funds for an arts related project. Here’s how it works. Individuals will submit a brief description (500 words or less) of the project they wish to request funds. Attendees (those presenting proposals and those there to vote) pay $10 towards the SPARK fund for the evening.  Food and refreshments are served and time is given to network and socialize.  Proposals are distributed to the attendees and individuals are given 2-3 minutes to talk or give a presentation about their project. All those in attendance will then vote for their favorite project and the most votes receives the SPARK proceeds generated from the evening to assist with their project. Depending on how many people in attendance, determines the amount of money awarded.  Please submit proposals to jen@ocartscouncil.org.
