This class will teach you the basics of silver soldering. Learn the set-up, torch skills, and finishing techniques that will help aid you in all your future jewelry projects. During the two days, students will be working with copper, silver, and brass to create wearable earrings and tie tacks. Soldering and fabrication will be the focus of these project but students will also get to practice their sawing, filing, and hammering skill while working through their designs. This jewelry basics workshop is a great addition to the Jewelry Tools and Techniques Class.
Marie DeWerff, born in Bloomington, IL received her BFA in metalsmithing at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. While there she was the recipient of the 2015 Rickert Ziebold Trust Award as well as a Windgate research grant. Marie’s work consists of functional jewelry and vessels that explore forged and fabricated forms. Marie has exhibited her work both nationally and internationally. Most recently she participated in The North American Mokume Gane Exhibition in Japan. Currently Marie is pursuing her MFA at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.
Join us as Zip Zap Circus USA brings its circus magic to Newburgh in partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of Newburgh and Safe Harbors of the Hudson.
FREE and open to 25 middle school students.
Work with a team of experienced, professional circus coaches to play together, learn amazing new skills and create a spectacular show for family, friends and the community. Activities will include acrobatics and tumbling, juggling, comedy, music and dance, and flying through the air (with the greatest of ease) on the flying trapeze.
Breakfast, lunch and snacks will be provided.
