CALL TO ARTISTS: THE RIVER FLOWS BOTH WAYS
The Hastings Village Arts Commission in association with The Newington Cropsey Foundation presents “The River Flows Both Ways,” a juried exhibition of traditional and contemporary interpretations of the Hudson River, inspired by famed Hudson River School painter Jasper Francis Cropsey, who lived and worked in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY.
Flowing from the Adirondacks to the Atlantic, the Hudson River has been a muse for artists and explorers, inspiring the Hudson River School of landscape painting and sustaining a way of life for Native Americans, sailors, and industrialists for centuries. The river’s natural beauty is a source of fascination, as it flows both north and south with the tides. Thus, the title of our show is taken from the Native American name for The Hudson, Mahicantuck, “the river that flows two ways.” We invite all artists to show us one of two views of the river (or both), representational or interpretive.
